He was appointed as a diplomat stationed in New York City, working as a Trade and Investment Specialist, where he promoted Ecuadorian exports and foreign direct investments into Ecuador. As a Schwarzman Scholar, Leonardo aspires to learn more about Chinese culture and to establish a strong commercial bond between Ecuador and both China and the United States.

    Atticus Francken is a serial entrepreneur with multiple successful ventures and exits spanning energy, education, and fintech, each of which has created dozens of jobs and impacted communities from D.C. to California. Atticus has deep experience in public policy, serving in roles with the Democratic National Committee, Obama’s 2012 campaign, and the U.S. Federal Reserve. Academically, Atticus has a quantitative background, including data science and structured finance. A native of Illinois, Atticus looks to the intersection of business and public policy to find innovative solutions to the major, complicated problems facing global governments.

As co-president of Business Solutions, he led the club to win three international case competitions, ending a three-year champion trophy drought. Today, he is a senior associate consultant at Bain & Company. Passionate about career empowerment, he co-founded CareerSocius to help job seekers maximize their career potential. He also completed a secondment as Acting Chief of Staff to Glints, a Series-B recruitment and education start-up providing economic empowerment and education opportunities to Southeast Asians.

    Jessica Carmeen Greely will graduate from Mills College with a bachelor’s degree in politics, economics, policy and law. An alumna of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School’s Global Institute for Human Rights, she studied American military history. Jessica holds pre-doctoral fellowships at the University of Southern California and Yale, is a Harvard Kennedy School Public Policy and Leadership Scholar, and Fulbright Grantee. Jessica currently serves in the district office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Upon completion of Schwarzman Scholars, Jessica will enroll in Officer Candidate School and serve in the U.S. Coast Guard. Jessica is from the United States of America.

    Gu Yu graduated with distinction from Renmin University of China in 2018 with a bachelor‘s degree in communication and journalism, and he also has two years' experience in the military academy. In the interdisciplinary context of journalism, psychology and international relations, he focuses on cross-cultural communication and public diplomacy. When he served as the Vice President of the College Student Union and the assistant of the International Office, he was responsible for helping overseas students to integrate into the Chinese culture circle. He also traveled to cities in Southwest China to cover One Belt And One Road, including interviews and dialogues with foreign senior diplomats. In the future, he hopes to become a military diplomat to allow China to become better understood, and to improve global cooperation. Gu Yu is from China.

Having studied in China, U.S., Kenya, and Canada, Selena has developed a global perspective which led to the publishing of her first book, “Turning 15 in Africa.” As a bilingual writer, she has worked with various international publications, aiming to use her creations to develop stronger connections among audiences regardless of borders. Also passionate about women’s empowerment, Selena launched W.I.T.H. (Women in Technology Huawei) in Nairobi to support Kenyan women’s careers in the technology industry.

She participated in the ICRC International Law Competition, won the Shulman Literary Cup for her project on economic peace in the Middle East, and is a research intern at the Abba Eban Institute, focusing on Israel and China relations. Keren is eager to expand her knowledge of Chinese foreign policy and utilize it to further relations between Arab nations and Israel.

    Omar Hamade, a Bay Area native, is excited for the role large-and-small biopharmaceutical companies have in building healthcare ecosystems that resolve the divisive inequalities present in healthcare access. After completing his undergraduate degree in Biology at Santa Clara University, Omar joined Genentech to address the need for diverse genomic data representation and understand disease heterogeneity to optimize personalized medicine treatment outcomes. Keen on implementing cross-disciplinary health strategies globally, Omar hopes to learn from China’s Healthy China 2030 strategy and more specifically, how the U.S. and China can be partners in global health efforts.

He holds chair positions in the Association of Leadership in Chemical Engineering and the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineers, advancing initiatives in leadership, professional development, and community outreach. Driven by international development, Fletcher volunteered on several occasions in Egypt and Thailand where he provided humanitarian aid in underprivileged societies, aspiring to become a leader in the field of global engineering.     Lucía Wei He is an award-winning multimedia journalist based in Buenos Aires. She is a founding member and the Managing Editor of RED/ACCIÓN, a news start-up disrupting the media industry through innovative, impact-focused stories. Lucía has also reported for the BBC, Al Jazeera English, and CNN, among others, from eight countries, including Haiti, Malaysia, and Senegal. She is passionate about using journalism to kindle empathy and build bridges, in particular between her homes of Latin America and China. Lucía graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University with a degree in international political economy (honors). Lucía is from Argentina.

At Georgetown, he founded a financial news company, interned at venture capital firm Revolution, and published the Amazon best-seller The Generation Z Entrepreneur. Currently, Alex works as an Associate at The Voleon Group, a quantitative hedge fund whose strategies are run exclusively by artificial intelligence (AI).     Chiu Yan (Alice) Ho will graduate from MIT in 2021 with a double major in Management and Architecture. She has a multi-cultural background, growing up in Macao, Hong Kong, and attending schools in the UK and U.S. Alice appreciates cultural heritage, and she is interested in learning Chinese public policy via Schwarzman Scholars. Alice was the president of SYMPH China, and also the founder of the MIT Finance Club, building up platforms and organizing events both in China and in the U.S. She also spent her summers interning at Ernst & Young, and Macao Theme Park and Resort Limited, making innovations in business. She also co-founded YOUth ACT, an accelerator for young change makers, that aims to bring more diversity to decision-making tables. As a consultant at Forward Incubator, she worked for refugee entrepreneurs. She studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.

Jenn was the first Singaporean Co-President of the Forum for American/Chinese Exchange at Stanford and is a Pioneer Editor at the Journal of Sino-American Affairs. She also co-founded an autonomous vehicle safety startup, following her internship at the Ministry of Transport. As a Public Service Commission scholar, Jenn aspires to contribute to the public service through the intersection of policy, diplomacy, and technology, and hopes to continue fostering relationships between young leaders across the Pacific.

    Nikhil Jain is a former consultant at The Boston Consulting Group, primarily working in its healthcare practice. Previously, he worked at the cancer biotechnology company AROG Pharmaceuticals. Nikhil wants to use his Schwarzman Scholars experience to learn how the Chinese government and business rapidly increased their population's access to medical treatment. Nikhil is a Mechanical Engineering graduate of Duke University, where his research focused in 3-D printed biomaterials to increase overseas medical device access. He launched Durham Kitchen Connection, a social venture to provide restaurant employment for ex-convicts, and he organized a medical entrepreneurship conference.

    Zumrud (Zuma) Jalilova holds a Master of Science in Gender and International Relations from Bristol University. She did her internship at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in Geneva and ever since worked with various state entities, international and local NGOs to promote gender equality. Zumrud co-founded the first feminist platform and initiated over 50 social projects. She taught Gender Studies at Baku State University for 9 faculties in 3 languages and was promoted to become the youngest senior lecturer in Azerbaijan. She founded Unpuzzle, an educative puzzle on gender equality and is the winner of the Study UK Social Impact Alumni Award of 2019 for being a change agent. She aims to contribute to systemic changes in the education system through her studies in China.
